Not really? Sheikhs have traditionally played a role as matchmaker if the community requests that of him. Almost all masjids you go to have some type of "matchmaking" service be it explcitly known or something as simple as a request by you to the scholar.
Regardless good for him...especially if he is helping get people together in a proper Islamic method.
